Complete Guide to Galveston Bay Fishing

Your Guide to Galveston Bay Fishing

Galveston Bay is one of the most productive estuaries on the entire Gulf Coast. Spanning over 600 square miles, the bay system offers year-round fishing opportunities for a variety of species.

Top Species

Speckled Trout - The bread and butter of Galveston Bay. Best from March through November, specks are found over oyster reefs, along grass lines, and under birds working bait.

Redfish - Available year-round but the fall bull red run (September-November) is legendary. Slot reds patrol the shorelines and marsh drains.

Flounder - Peak season is October through December during the annual flounder run. Target them on mud bottoms near passes and channels.

Black Drum - Winter favorites (January-March). These hard-fighting fish stack up around the jetties and in back bays on shrimp.

Best Times to Fish

Early morning and late afternoon produce the best topwater action. Incoming tides are generally more productive than outgoing, pushing bait up onto the flats where game fish feed.
