Texas Tarpon Fishing - Chase the Silver King
Tarpon Fishing on the Texas Coast
The Silver King. The most sought-after game fish in the Gulf of America. Texas tarpon fishing is a bucket-list experience, and Galveston is ground zero for the best action.
When They Arrive
Tarpon typically show up along the Texas coast in late June and stay through October. Peak season is July through September when water temps are in the low-to-mid 80s. The fish follow the massive schools of mullet that populate the beachfront and passes.
How We Fish Them
Sight-casting is the primary method. We run the beachfront looking for rolling and free-jumping fish, then present live mullet or crab on heavy spinning tackle. When a tarpon eats, there's nothing else like it - the initial run and series of jumps is the most exciting thing in fishing.
What to Expect
- Average fish: 80-120 pounds
- Trophy fish: 150+ pounds
- Fight time: 30 minutes to 2 hours
- All tarpon are catch, photo, and release
Booking Tips
Tarpon trips book out fast - serious anglers reserve their dates in February and March. We run 8-hour trips starting at dawn when conditions are calm and the fish are most active. Full moon periods in July and August are historically our best windows.
