Galveston Bay is home to a resident pod of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins. They often swim alongside the boat, riding our wake and putting on a show.

Coastal Birds

Brown pelicans, great blue herons, roseate spoonbills, and laughing gulls. Galveston sits on the Central Flyway -- one of North America's major migration routes.

Marine Life

Sea turtles, stingrays, and jumping mullet are regular sightings. The bay's rich ecosystem supports an incredible diversity of marine life year-round.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about wildlife tours

Galveston Bay has a resident pod of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, and Captain Shawn knows their favorite spots. While wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, we see dolphins on the vast majority of our tours -- especially in warmer months.

Wildlife tours start at $375 for a private charter. The exact price depends on group size and duration. It's a private experience -- just your group aboard the Fish Commander.

Wildlife tours are one of our most popular family experiences. Kids love spotting dolphins, pelicans, and other wildlife. The calm bay waters and shorter duration make it comfortable for all ages, including young children.

Wildlife is present year-round in Galveston Bay. Spring and fall bring migratory birds along the Central Flyway. Summer means the most active dolphin encounters and sea turtle sightings. Winter is quieter but great for birding -- roseate spoonbills and shorebirds are everywhere.

Yes! Many guests enjoy light fishing while cruising for wildlife. Captain Shawn can set up rods for casual bay fishing between wildlife stops. Just mention it when you book so we can plan accordingly.

Bring a camera with a zoom lens if you have one, binoculars, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and snacks/drinks. A light jacket is smart for breezy days. Wear non-slip shoes and clothes that can handle some spray.
